01

For young people ready to go deeper

Beginners are welcome, while returning makers receive more complex extensions. The emphasis is on independent thinking, purposeful iteration and being able to explain every important choice.

02

What happens in a workshop

Each 75-minute session moves from a clear problem to a tested result, with the child—not the tool—making the key decisions.

  1. 01

    Frame the problem

Define the goal, constraints and evidence that would show success.

  2. 02

    Plan

Sketch the system, sequence the steps and choose suitable tools.

  3. 03

    Create

Code, wire, assemble or model a working first version.

  4. 04

    Debug and verify

Find faults, compare outputs with evidence and improve reliability.

  5. 05

    Present

Demonstrate the result, explain decisions and identify the next improvement.

03

Projects this group may explore

Sound and radio

Sound and radio

Assemble the enclosure and electronics, then trace how a signal becomes sound.

Robotic arm

Robotic arm

Connect joints and controls, then test repeatable movements and limits.

Solar tracking

Solar tracking

Assemble a moving solar model and investigate how orientation changes the energy collected.

04

What children practise

  • Structured problem-solving and project planning
  • Coding, electronics, robotics and scientific investigation
  • Debugging and checking claims against evidence
  • Working creatively within real constraints
  • Presenting a result and reflecting on trade-offs

AI

Creative AI without blind trust

Children explore supervised tools with capabilities similar to ChatGPT, Codex and Claude. They learn how to structure prompts with a goal, context and constraints; judge what an output can contribute; spot confident but wrong or misleading responses; and organise their own thinking around AI as a creative tool rather than trusting it 100%.
