Mission 04 · Lesson 14

Meet your robot

Electronics & Robotics

35–50 min + optional 15 min

Work at your pace. Take a break between stages; there is no countdown.

You need: paper, a pencil and this lab. A helper is welcome for reading and discussion.

Connect to what you know

A bulb makes light. A robot’s motor turns electrical energy into movement. Your algorithm can control it.

Understand it, step by step

  1. 1

A robot combines power, a controller and actuators such as motors. The controller follows a program; wheels do not decide where to go.

  2. 2

Our grid model uses absolute arrows, just like your drawing program. Each command moves one square. It does not model wheel slip or turning mechanics.

  3. 3

Plan the entire route before running. Walls block movement. A program that works on one map may fail on another.

Watch a worked example

From the bottom-left, ↑ ↑ → reaches a point two rows up and one column across. Moving → first can fail when a wall is immediately to the right.

Pause and predict

Which command would meet the first wall on this map?
